Dornburg Castles

Not far from Jena and surrounded by vineyards in an idyllic location overlooking the Saale Valley are the three Dornburg Castles. 

Johann Wolfgang Goethe found respite here - especially in the rococo palace and the Renaissance castle - from the hustle and bustle of the Weimar Court and the affairs of state. Visitors may look around the Renaissance castle, but the rococo palace and the old imperial palace are not open to visitors.
