Eisenach
The town of Eisenach, situated in the foothills of the Thuringian Forest, is well known for several reasons: Wartburg Castle, the "Battle of the Bards" (a contest between medieval minnesingers), Luther's translation the New Testament and Wagner's "Tannhäuser".
But it is as the town where Johann Sebastian Bach was born that it is most famous. Today you can still follow in the footsteps of the great masters by visiting Luther's house or Bach's house, or the Reuter Villa with its Richard Wagner collection. Or you can visit Wartburg Castle or the church where Bach was baptized.
