Weimar
Great poets and philosophers, such as Goethe and Schiller, Wieland and Herder, have all left their mark on the Classical town of Weimar.
No less fascinating is a stroll through Weimar on the trail of the Bauhaus movement, which was founded by architect Walter Gropius in 1919.
Everywhere you turn in Weimar you will find traces of the town's eventful history: for instance, the Goethe House and the Goethe National Museum, the Schiller House, Goethe's garden house, Belvedere Palace, the Bauhaus Museum and the Weimar House, and also the Buchenwald memorial.
