Heidelberg lies at the heart of the Electoral Palatinate, a region famous for its scenic beauty, architectural and cultural monuments, outstanding cuisine and excellent vintages.
Welcoming you to the west is the Palatinate with its vine-clad hills, and to the north the Bergstrasse on whose sheltered slopes fine wines likewise flourish.

To the southeast leads the "Burgenstrasse" through the romantic Neckar Valley, from whose hilltops numerous castles beckon. Attractive nearby destinations include the castle complexes of Schwetzingen and Bruchsal, the medieval city of Ladenburg with Roman excavations, the cathedral towns of Speyer and Worms, the cities of Michelstadt and Erbach in the Odenwald, the Hockenheim speedway, and the hamlets of Neckargemünd and Neckarsteinach, which can be reached from Heidelberg by ship.

Nearest major cities are Mannheim and Ludwigshafen; however, Mainz, Wiesbaden, Frankfurt, Karlsruhe and Stuttgart are all reached quickly and conveniently from Heidelberg.
