H. F. von Melle Wine MerchantsAlthough Lübeck has no vineyard or vintners, its wine trade is centuries old. One Lübeck specialty is Rotspon, wine made from grapes picked and pressed in France and transported in wooden barrels to Lübeck, where the wine is stored, aged and bottled. According to tradition, French troops under Napoleon found that the Lübeck sea air gave the aging wine a special taste. Wine merchant H.F. von Melle celebrates a wine tradition going back more than 150 years. Visitors can choose from more than 350 different types of wine. In von Melle's traditional and historic setting, guests receive expert advice and can choose wines they think will match their taste. Then they can do what no expert and no wine book can accomplish: taste the wines and decide if their tongues say, "Yes!" Wine tastings are available both for groups and individuals.
