The uniquely preserved medieval scenery of Regensburg's old Imperial City provides an incomparable setting for a wealth of concerts and festivities, fine and traditional dining, and museums with fascinating and precious collections from two millennia.

Washington may never have slept here, but Goethe did - frequently. Even Mozart praised Regensburg's hospitality, recording for posterity in 1790 that he "lunched splendidly," enjoyed "divine dinner music" and savored the "fine wine" here. Surely he too made his way to the 800-year-old Historische Würstküche (Historic Sausage Kitchen) at the Old Stone Bridge, a must for every visitor. Today one still experiences oldtime hospitality in shaded beer-gardens along the Danube, in taverns and guesthouses serving genuine Bavarian fare, and in award-winning gourmet restaurants.

Those who love hearty Bavarian lifestyle will want to join the fun at one of the Volksfests in and around the city, or at the Regensburger Bauerntheater (Farmers Theater). And the Altstadtfest brings it all together: street art and street theater, folk music and tasty "Brotzeit" snacks, rubbing elbows with the local people. Nightowls can enjoy all the amusements of a modern metropolis in bars, discos, pubs and clubs.

Regensburg boasts numerous museums with fascinating and precious collections from two millennia - featuring topics ranging from Roman relics to inland navigation. Still more intriguing sights can be seen today at their original locations in the heart of the city: history you can reach right out and touch.

The uniquely preserved medieval scenery of the old Imperial City provides an incomparable setting for a wealth of concerts and festivities. Lovers of classical music find a rich and varied program throughout the year. Many visitors make special trips to hear the world-renowned Regensburger Domspatzen, Germany's oldest boys'choir. Their singing makes a festive service in the Cathedral an unforgettable event. Besides the multifaceted program of the Municipal Theaters, there are several other stages such as the Figurentheater and a number of studio workshops.
