Walhalla

Danube River Cruise

Walhalla

Travel by boat to Walhalla, an imposing temple in Greek style on a Danube hillside.

The Doric marble temple was built for King Ludwig I by Leo Klenze taking the Parthenon on the Acropolis as his model in honor of famous members of the German-speaking world. He chose a hillside overlooking the Danube.

The Walhalla (1830 - 1842) in Donaustauf - about 10 km down the Danube from Regensburg - can be reached by boat (from the Stone Bridge), by bus or by car. The best way of visiting Walhalla is by climbing the huge stairway (358 steps) leading up to it. It is however also possible to drive to a sign-posted car park behind the building; from there the monument can be reached via a path with far fewer steps.

Boat ride from April - end of October at 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. (duration approx. 3 hours)
