Culturally the old Hanseatic city has much to attract visitors
The Kulturhistorisches Museum, stylishly housed in the Convent of the Holy Cross, provides interesting displays of the city's history and treasures. The development of the Hanseatic League is inseparably linked with seafaring. This glorious epoch is brought impressively to life at the Schifffahrtsmuseum with its navigation and shipbuilding sections.
The life of fishermen and seafarers of bygone centuries and the Sea Rescue Service are highlighted at the Heimatmuseum in Warnemünde. Contemporary art is found at the Kunsthalle and in the galleries of the Hanseatic city.
The Volkstheater with its four stages presents performances of everything from the classics to contemporary drama. Augmenting this spectrum are the Niederdeutsche Bühne Rostock and the Compagnie de Comédie.
