The Franconian Wine Region offers a great range of sporting activities to visitors.

Hikers will find, apart from the classical hiking districts Spessart, Rhön and Steigerwald, plenty of walks in the Franconian Wine Region. The Maintal-Path and the Main-Donau-Bodensee-Path are national trails in the Maindreieck and Mainviereck.

In Greater Würzburg especially a wide network of trails, including the vineyard locations, can be found in the Gramschatzer and Guttenberger Forests, the Volkacher Mainschleife, in the southern Maindreieck and in the single tourist resorts.

An Archaeological Trail in the Tauber and Gollach Valley leads to Celtic entrenchments, barrows, wayside shrines and fortifications from prehistoric times and early history. The "Steinweinpfad" in the centre of the world famous vineyard location "Würzburg Stein" offers, besides the magnificent panorama view of Würzburg a lot of information on wine growing in Franconia.

Anglers can pursue their hobby undisturbed on the Main, Saale, Sinn, Tauber and Gollach. Water sports fans will find ideal conditions for swimming, sailing, windsurfing, waterskiing and boat trips on the Main, in bathing lakes and countless open-air and indoor swimming pools. This also applies for tennis and riding and not least for gliding and flying. Golf lessons are offered also. Picnic grounds and huts, educational trails, keep-fit trails, mini-golf, horse-and-carriage-trips and above all the "White Fleet" of the Main-shipping company offer a full holiday programme for family entertainment.

Cycling fans will also get their money's worth in the Franconian wine Region. Greater Würzburg boasts a 300-mile long network of cycle tracks, for which maps are available. From Würzburg, there are convenient connections linking Spessart, Rhön and Haßberge and the fringes of the Steigerwald. In the Tauber Valley to the south of Würzburg the cycling route "Liebliches Taubertal" from Rothenburg to Wertheim has proven a true winner among cyclists.
