The Lutheran Marktkirche (Market Church) was built by Karl Boos from 1852 to 1862 as a Gothic Revival basilica with three naves. The western tower (92 meters high) makes it the tallest building in the city.
This church was the first brick building erected in the Duchy of Nassau. "Der Schweiger" monument stands in front of the church in commemoration of William I the Silent, Prince of Orange (1533-1584).
