The Altstadt (Old Town) of Wiesbaden, which used to be encircled by a city wall, sprawls between Webergasse, Langgasse and Kirchgasse, Friedrichstrasse and Wilhelmstrasse. Narrow, twisting alleys are lined with houses dating back to the 18th and 19th centuries.
The Bäckerbrunnen (Baker's Fountain) in Grabenstrasse is now a popular meeting place. The oldest still preserved townhouse, which dates back to 1728, is located at No. 5-7 Wagemannstrasse. The row of houses between these two streets is the heart of the historic quarter and is locally known as the "Schiffchen" or "Little Ship".
